Long Distance Race Report

Conditions were perfect on Sunday for the long distance race, a five and a half mile course was set for one start for all three classes.
The fleet set off from the harbour start line to the first mark D keeping it to starboard than a beat back to N to port, a run to B taken on starboard, then a beat back to G to port, a short run to Y to starboard then a long fetch to T, just off the lifeboat station followed by a long reach back to O on port and a short beat to finish at Pepe .
Stuart Gummer in his D. Zero, set a fast time of just under an hour to complete the 5.4 mile course, nearly an hour faster than the last finishers! Sally, in her Laser, was close on Stuart's heels until gear failure forced her to retire despite a valiant effort to repair and rejoin the race.

Great team work from Anne and Ian saw them lead the Swans all the way round the course in Scottie, the club boat. John Mills and Linda Briant, who were not far behind, were having to keep a close cover on Grainne and Jan in Seven, another club boat. Unusual to have a cruiser join in but Pandora of Mike Bottoms just pipped Grainne and Jan on the finish line.
The Scows had some close racing with Martin Davis managing to finish just before his mast fell down. A big thank you to the support boat crew and Alex O'Connell for stepping in as assistant race officer at the last minute.
