Easter 7 & 8

The weather continued to uphold its side of the bargain which enabled us to run Race 7 and 8 in the Easter Regatta series. A force 3 to 4 with a few challenging gusts blowing from the South West meant that we could set a course suitable for the fleets. Sadly, we had no boats in the Slow Handicap but we did have some stiff competition in the Fast and Scows.

A Course 1 was set for the Fast handicap for both races and a twice round a triangle for the scows. In the Fast handicap, Tony Burton and Jack Slaughter in the Laser 4000, got off to a roaring start but a technical problem hindered their progress. There was a spectacular tussle on the finish line between the Flying Fifteen sailed by Roger and Gill Herbert and the RS 200 sailed by Chris Sproat and Georgina Burke, with just one second separating them. However, Stuart Gummer won on handicap in his Devoitte.

In the second race, the Laser 4000 flew round the course crossing the line first but not far enough ahead to beat the rest of the fleet. Another tussle occurred in the second race, with the Devoitte and the RS200 with the RS 200 just gaining the advantage. However, the Flying Fifteen won the race on handicap.

In the Scows, Oliver Morgan took a commanding lead in the first race, hotly pursued by Peter Giles and the rest of the fleet. In the second race, it was very tight on the finish line with Peter Giles tacking to his advantage and taking first place just in front of Oliver Morgan and Anne Barlow.

Thanks to the patrol boats crews who did a great job!
