It was the final Natural Links Bird Migration Holiday for 2021 in North Norfolk and Members from BHYC travelled up last weekend. The Members were treated to favourable weather and some excellent birdwatching.

Sites visits included Snettisham and Titchwell RSPB Reserves, Cley Marshes and Roydon Common NWT Reserves, Holkham NNR and Welney WWT Wetland Centre.

The wader murmurations over the Wash were very spectacular, with massive flocks of Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit and Dunlin, wheeling through the sky huge numbers of Pink-footed Geese and Shelduck forever on the move. Another bird spectacle was the hundreds of Whooper Swans on the wetlands at Welney, joined by large numbers of ducks such as Wigeon, Pintail, Pochard and wading birds which included Black-tailed Godwit, Lapwing and Ruff.

A total of 95 bird species were seen or heard over the course of the weekend with other highlights of Red-throated Diver, Cattle Egret, Kingfisher, Shore Lark Red-breasted Flycatcher and Snow Bunting.

Dave Fairlamb will be running walk and talks from the club in December , there is a BHYC what's app group for members to keep up to date with what's being spotted in the harbour.
