Welcome from the Commodore

A very warm welcome to Brading Haven Yacht Club's website. I sincerely hope that as you navigate through the site menu you will find something to stimulate your interest whether as a prospective member, someone newly joining the Club or a member of long standing.

Founded in 1950 and like many clubs, identified by its initials, BHYC thrives with a mixture of volunteer support and paid staff. It is an RYA 'Champion Club', was a finalist in the 2022 'Club of the Year' awards and is a recognised RYA Training Centre with a Chief Instructor able to offer both friendly advice and RYA qualifications in both power and sail.

BHYC's location offers access to the Solent, one of the finest sailing grounds in the country yet its sheltered harbour enables beginners to build their confidence and the more confident to sail year round - with safety boat support when racing is scheduled. The Club offers boat parking and moorings and has a range of boats available for hire.

BHYC is however, much more than just a place for people with boats. Friendly and family orientated, its clubhouse and terrace provide an excellent venue to have a drink, a meal or just to socialise in a beautiful location. The Club offers bar and restaurant facilities for members, their guests, visiting yachtsmen and sailing rallies. There is a full social programme ranging from large formal events celebrating such splendid occasions as Burns Night or Trafalgar Day to informal music evenings. As a community hub BHYC is home to a Ladies Lunch Group, a Walking Group, a Bridge Section and a Breakfast Club. Visiting speakers provide monthly winter talks.

Our members benefit from having reciprocal arrangements with other RYA Sailing Clubs based around the county whilst also being able to take advantage of reduced ferry travel with both Wightlink and Red Funnel and reduced membership of the Bembridge Coast Hotel Leisure Club.

The Club's Management Committee and its 'Offshore' and 'Onshore' sub committees meet monthly and we are keen to hear your suggestions as to how we may improve the member experience and drive the Club forward - or indeed how we might use your skills as a volunteer!

This website endeavours to provide all the information you need but if you have questions or can offer solutions then track me or any other committee member down on the water or at the bar or catch any one of the team at 18:30hrs on the last Thursday of the month prior to the Management Meeting. Failing that simply email me.

Enjoy our club and happy sailing!
